Welcome Aboard!

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is the civilian component of the U.S. Coast Guard. The Auxiliary was authorized in 1939 by an act of Congress as the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves. Congress later amended the act with passage of the Auxiliary and Reserve Act of 1941, which designated the Reserve as a military branch of the Coast Guard and the Auxiliary became the civilian component.

We in Division 33 of the 9th Western Region work directly in support of the men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard serving the shores of Lake Michigan and inland waterways across Northern Indiana and Southwestern Michigan.

In addition to assisting the Coast Guard in Search and Rescue missions, safety patrols and in training exercises, we perform vessel safety checks, teach boating safety classes, maintain relationships with local marine stores and marinas, and routinely patrol local waterways looking for navigational hazards, distressed boaters and pollution problems.

The Four Cornerstones of the Auxiliary

  • Vessel Safety Checks
  • Boating Safety Courses
  • U.S. Coast Guard, State and Local Support Operations
  • Auxiliary Fellowship

We at Division 33 enthusiastically support the threefold strategic plan of the Commandant of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and the watchwords: Training, Communication, and Members, along with the core values of Team Coast Guard: honor, respect, and devotion to duty

In all things we strive to remain, semper paratus, “always ready.”

Thank you for visiting our web site.
